Description

~watercolor, waterproof brown ink, mixed media paper (A7)~

Finally something finished to show here again! :)

I'm a bit proud at the moment of this little story, because I worked some time on it, did a lot of sketching and color testing beforehand...also a bit of research to match. For example one time to log trees is autumn, so that not too many birds nisting are distracted. Than, foxes mate in winter (around January) and little foxes are born and raised in spring to summer. So the timeline is quite accurate.

I hope it's clear what is happening, it was a bit challenging to tell a story with just four tiny pictures but thats why I enjoyed it and am quite proud of the outcome. So tell me, what you think about it and the art in general, I'm curious :)

Hello from Project Comment.

This is a very eye-catching series, your sense of composition (keeping the red fox in the same corner each time) and continuity (the plants growing up around the stump) make it easy to follow.  Your personal style is both warm and approachable...almost conveying a sort of innocence...very probably appealing to a wide audience.  It makes me think of the better greeting cards: a commercially viable form of fine art.  I like the story it tells, and am especially impressed by the way the color pallet for each season completely changes; you don't have to label them; they're obvious.

That said, this is Project Comment, not Project Compliment, so I try only post for pieces where at least some improvement is possible.  Here, I see only ways to improve the good, not repair the bad.  First and foremost are the stub-branches on the background trees: they're inconsistent from frame to frame.  While the bushes around the foreground stump grow with the passage of time, these stub-branches appear, disappear and move.  My second and final criticism is really more of a suggestion.  The foreground bushes in the summer pane would look more realistic if the branches within were less contiguous.  Breaking them up, as if crossed and hidden by leaves, would add depth.

That's it, really.  This is such a treat to look at.  I'm going to share it with my Mom, who loves foxes.
